Innovative Partnering for Enterprise-wide Release of Information

Standardizing release of information (ROI) policies and procedures across the healthcare enterprise to the fullest extent possible is a management imperative. Many healthcare organizations are working to centralize the request, release, QA, and billing processes associated with ROI. Their goal is to ensure that all parts of the organization handle protected health information in a uniform way.

Organizations are discovering how to achieve greater uniformity in ways that work best for them. They are centralizing in-house ROI operations, outsourcing ROI to a service company or are partnering with an outsource company doing care coordination ROI in house while outsourcing less time sensitive release functions. This has been a time of unique innovation in ROI to improve customer service and compliance while controlling costs.

Baptist Health System Florida, an internationally renowned not-for-profit organization and clinical care network in southern Florida, has taken operational innovation one step further by forming a joint venture, Health Systems Solutions, to centralize end-to-end revenue cycle operations beginning with patient access and including HIM functions of CDI, coding and ROI essential for high integrity data and data management. The Baptist innovation offers the potential for more integrated uniformity of ROI and related functions that support the care continuity and sound business operations – the next frontier for ROI.

Presenters at this session will describe this new paradigm of operational performance and cost management, what’s been learned to date, and the plans for continued innovation on the horizon. The Baptist approach offers lessons for all who seek to innovate operations and prepare for the challenges ahead.
