Addressing Health Inequities: Building Better Ways to Break Down Barriers
COVID-19 has acted as an accelerator to further widen the gap in health care disparities and has underscored the inequities minorities face within the U.S. healthcare system. During the global pandemic, minorities have seen significantly higher infection and death rates, which has compounded years of marginalization within the healthcare system.
As the nation continues to acknowledge and address systemic inequities, there is an increasing demand to close social health care gaps. Presenters at this session will explore how health care system can leverage technology to track social determinants of health (SDOH), how that effort can address inequities, and the first steps providers can take to institute new SDOH approaches.
After completing this session, attendees will:
• Understand how social inequities have become ingrained in our healthcare system and how SDOH technology can begin to address the problem, which is often oversimplified.
• Have knowledge about how to integrate structured, unstructured, and external data to create a holistic view of the patient.
• Be able to recognize what new determinants should be tracked to address rising risk in patient populations.
