The Art of the Self-Audit
Self-audits are methodical, internal reviews of current coding practices. This presentation is designed to cover the importance of a self-audit, as well as meeting the requirements of the OIG.
The presenter will discuss how reviewing coding, billing, and documentation processes allows teams to identify improper payments, including missed billing opportunities; discover areas in need of improved patient care and satisfaction; target training and educational needs for coding staff and other key revenue cycle team members; and create a vigorous culture of compliance.
A self-audit ensures a precise database that supports the accurate case mix index and reimbursement, the accurate reflection of risk of mortality/severity of illness measures, the medical necessity of services rendered, contract negotiations, and much more. Attend this session to learn all the benefits of a self-audit.
Participants in this session will learn:
• The value of self-audits and how to identify high-risk coding areas for both inpatients and outpatients.
• How to create and maintain a dynamic, constructive self-auditing process.
• Why a self-audit is needed to ensure compliance with established coding and billing rules and regulations.
