Adapting to the AI/CAC Coding Landscape for Physician Coders

Presenters at this session will discuss strengths of physician-based coders and key coding concepts that are currently and frequently missed by physician-based coders in the audit landscape. These misses mainly result from inexperience, poor training, defensiveness and/or unwillingness to accept feedback from peers.

Presenters will cover ICD-10-CM coding conventions, guidelines, chapter-specific guidelines, and more. They will review examples and what results of AI/CAC coding looks like. They will also discuss what key coding concepts need to be applied for AI/CAC coding and areas of coding that need to be strengthened by physician-based coders to survive in AI/CAC coding landscape.

Learner Outcomes

After completing this session, participants will be able to:

• Better understand physician-based coders and key coding concepts that are frequently missed by physician-based coders while auditing.
• Have an understanding of chart examples and what results of AI/CAC coding looks like.
• Discuss key coding concepts that need to be applied for AI/CAC coding.
• Be aware of areas of coding that need to be strengthened by physician-based coders to survive in the AI/CAC coding landscape.
