What are your personal goals for the AHIMA20 virtual conference, and what knowledge do you hope to take back to your organization?

My personal goals for the conference are to obtain valuable CEUs and to network with other professionals. I hope to connect with others to discuss COVID-19—everything from how it has impacted work life to the challenges of coding the charts. I am looking to learn more about compliance and ways to ensure that my facility stays on the compliant and ethical path. My hope is that I can bring back to my organization valuable information to assist in moving forward with HIM critical activities, and ways that we can make our voice be heard regarding the challenges of the EHR and documentation.

My personal goal for the AHIMA20 Virtual Conference is to engage with my peers and join with them in learning about the latest privacy and security trends. As co-chair for the Information Protection Track it has been a honor to work with my co-chair, Dawn Paulson, MJ, RHIA, CHPS, CPHI, this year. We were provided excellent leadership and teamwork from our staff liaison, Robyn Stambaugh, MS, RHIA, Practice Director.

Privacy and security continues to be such a critical, evolving subject in healthcare. The Information Protection: Privacy and Security sessions at AHIMA20 will provide our members with insight from industry experts on a wide variety of topics that encompass the latest on federal and state regulations, managing cybersecurity threats, and many more engaging sessions. The committee is looking forward member feedback on all the informative presentations at AHIMA20!

I want to leave the event with the ability to remind my organization of AHIMA’s vision and expertise within the healthcare industry. I want to emphasize our members’ knowledge in patient integrity and governance throughout the lifecycle of patient care. I want to be able to explain where AHIMA is empowering the evolving healthcare environment.

I want to be able to tell my organization that AHIMA is going to be at the table, evaluating and guiding on cutting edge technology, new regulations, and protecting our patients’ information in any medium, from any location.

I want my organization to know that I will turn to AHIMA as the first source of truth as the expert in management and understanding of patient health information.
